304 stainless steel is a popular and widely used grade of stainless steel due to its excellent corrosion resistance, versatility, and affordability. Here's some information about 304 stainless steel sheets:
Composition: 304 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with a composition of approximately 18-20% chromium and 8-10.5% nickel. It also contains small amounts of carbon, manganese, and other elements to enhance its properties.
Corrosion Resistance: 304 stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments, including atmospheric conditions and mild chemical environments. It is resistant to corrosion from oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid, and organic acids, such as acetic acid. However, it may be susceptible to corrosion in chloride-containing environments, such as coastal regions or when exposed to seawater.
Weldability: 304 stainless steel has good weldability and can be easily welded using various methods, including arc welding, resistance welding, and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG welding). Precautions should be taken to avoid sensitization and intergranular corrosion during welding by using low carbon versions like 304L.
